According to Jon Paul Morosi, Zack Greinke’s no-trade clause could allow him to block a trade to the Washington Nationals:
“Zack Greinke’s no-trade clause allows him to block trades to 15 teams. And that list includes the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals, according to a major-league source.”
While it is interesting that Greinke would add Washington to his no-trade list, it really doesn’t mean much of anything. Assuming the Nationals do put the package together to get Kansas City to agree to a trade, and Greinke then refuses to come to the Nationals, would the club really want him?
Hopefully, if anything, this wont serve as a roadblock to acquiring Greinke in a would be bad transaction. Greinke has had trouble keeping himself mentally centered in the past, but has seem to find a balance in Kansas City. No one would want him going somewhere he didn’t feel comfortable, even if that means we don’t get his potent arm.
