Series Storylines: Philadelphia Phillies 9/17-9/19

The Washington Nationals make the quick trip up the interstate for a weekend series with the first place Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies are one of the hottest teams in baseball and snatched first place away from the Atlanta Braves in the process. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. There is no question Philadelphia is the team to beat in the division and it doesn’t look like their willing to give up the top spot any time soon. The Phillies would love nothing more than to beat up on the last place Nationals to bury the Braves for good.

The thing about Washington is that they are not your average team in the cellar who will easily roll over and quit. They have scrapped together a respectable 5-7 record against the superior Phillies this season. These pesky Nats will put up a fight because they feel as though they have something to prove.

The Nationals will have their hands full with Oswalt in game one. Oswalt has been everything the Phillies wanted and more since coming over from Houston. As a matter of fact, only two Nationals, Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman, have collected an RBI of Oswalt in their career.

Jimmy Rollins has been out of the lineup since September 10th due to a hamstring issue leaving Wilson Valdez at shortstop. Valdez has been a solid role player this season, mostly by filling in for the injured Rollins. Expect to see Rollins out of the lineup until at least the final series of the year against the Braves.
