2011 Trade Deadline In Review: Nationals One-Two Punch Remains Intact

Heres a rundown of all the transactions the Nationals made before the deadline.

- Diamondbacks get: RHP Jason Marquis Nationals get: SS prospect Zach Walters

- Brewers get: UT Jerry Hairston Jr. Nationals get: OF prospect Erik Komatsu

- Reds get: OF prospect Bill Rhinehart and LHP prospect Chris Manno Nationals get: OF Jonny Gomes

The 4 o’clock deadline came and went with Drew Storen still sitting in the Nationals bullpen. A few minutes later he would find himself standing on the mound in the bottom of the ninth basking in a warm ovation from the home crowd where he rewarded them by serving up a game-tying home run to Scott Hairston of the New York Mets in a classic “Wanna Get Away?” moment.

Overall a quiet week for Washington, no dramatic moves, but the biggest news they made was with the moves they didn’t make. The Storen for Denard Span talks with the Minnesota Twins continued to pick up steam but thankfully GM Mike Rizzo couldn’t pull the trigger. As great of a player as Span is, there is no way he is worth the teams up and coming closer. With a tag-team like Storen and set-up man Tyler Clippard in the back end of the bullpen, the Nationals will feel a great sense of comfort late in games.
