Spring Game 1 Round Up: Nats Win But Harper K’s Twice

The Nats (1-0) topped the Mets (1-1-1) 9-3 this afternoon in Port St. Lucie.

A Few Notes:

 – Michael Morse went 3-5 with two home runs and four RBI in his spring debut. GM Mike Rizzo said he was excited to see what Morse would do this season after working with Rick Eckstein this winter, and so far he’s off to a great start. Of course, you will often see guys who train super hard in the offseason come into spring hot, as opposed to guys like Adam Dunn who never even swing a bat in the winter.

– Bryce Harper looked overpowered as the 18-year-old sensation went 0-2 with two strikeouts, seeing just seven pitches. Snap back to reality.

– Wilson Ramos, Rodger Benadina, and Ian Desmond both registered two hits.

-Despite Bernadina’s new ridiculously muscular physique, the outfielder only poked two singles on the day. He also attempted to steal two bases, one successfully against Mike Pelfrey, one unsuccessful against Carrasco.

-Craig Stammen pitched two innings in relief, earning a blown save and a win.

-Jerry Hariston made a throwing error, but if you ask me, it should have been caught by journeyman Kevin Barker.
