Spring Game 4 Round Up: Nats lose their first

The Nats (3-1) lost their first game of the spring to a Split Squad St. Louis Cardinals (3-1) today, 5-7.

Some Notes:

-Nyjer Morgan, Ian Desmond, Jayson Werth, Mike Morse, Ivan Rodriguez, and Danny Espinosa got some serious work in as they each had at least three at bats. Usually this early in the spring you won’t see many established major leaguers play nearly the entire game, instead seeing them get one or two looks and then the youngsters come in. This hasn’t been the case for the Nats at all this spring.

-Mike Morse came down to earth, going 0-4 on the day, dropping his average all the way to .455. He did not strikeout however, meaning he’s still tracking the ball well.

-Wilson Ramos continued to impress with the bat, today going 2-3 with a pair of singles and an RBI at the DH position.

-Not to be outdone, Derek Norris hit a pinch hit home run in the 8th inning in his only at bat.

-Jay Z (Jordan Zimmermann) was good, not great, in his spring debut. The righty pitched three innings and scattered four hits while allowing no runs and striking out one.

- On the other side of the diamond, Both Colby Rasmus and Albert Pujols had a pair of singles. Both players are obviously crucial for the Cardinals success this coming season. That being said, if Rasmus has a great spring don’t be surprised to see him traded for a starting pitcher, a vacancy the Cardinals have with the recent injury to Adam Wainwright.
