Jordan Bastain, MLB.com reporter with the Cleveland Indians, has reported that Asdrubal Cabrera has been traded to the Washington Nationals. Nick Camino of WTAM in Cleveland reports that Zach Walters will head to Cleveland for the Nats part of the deal.

As I wrote earlier today, this deal will likely have Cabrera playing second base as the regular starter and will allow Espinosa to hit against left-handed pitching, which is where he does the most damage. The Nats give up Walters, who is an infielder with a lot of power but much contact or defense.
Once again, Mike Rizzo completes a deal that will bolster a weak part of the Nationals roster while giving up very little in exchange. One thing that makes this deal different is the contract situation. Rizzo doesn’t like to trade for rentals, but that’s exactly what Cabrera is. He’ll be a free agent after this season.
