Three-Homer Eleventh Helps O’s Sink Nats

For a team with one of baseball’s best bullpens, you would not expect the Washington Nationals to be 2-8 in extra-inning games. Well, you might if you saw how they pitched tonight. After strong starts from Chris Tillman and Stephen Strasburg led to extras, the Baltimore Orioles (49-40) crushed three home runs in a six-run […]

Covering The Nationals’ Biggest All-Star Snubs

I’ve gone on some fairly extensive rants about the MLB All-Star Game in the past. From allowing fan voting in a game that decides who gets home-field advantage during the World Series to managers selecting their own players rather than those who are most deserving, the game is a spectacle. That said, I’m still going […]

Nationals Meet Up With AL East Leading Orioles for Battle of the Beltways

The Washington Nationals (48-39) start their series with the Baltimore Orioles (48-40) tonight in what has been dubbed the Battle of the Beltways. The current version of this manufactured “rivalry” is played as a four-game series with two games at each stadium. Monday and Tuesday will be at Nationals Park before heading up I-95 to […]

Nats Aim to Stay Hot Against Cubs

The Chicago Cubs (37-46) have been synonymous with losing and disappointment for years, and famously hold the longest title drought in professional sports: 106 years. It’s certainly easy to write the Cubs off, given their past, but the 2014 iteration of this cursed franchise will be no pushover for the Washington Nationals (46-38). The Cubs may […]

Federal Reserve: Washington Nationals Hitter and Pitcher of June 2014

June was a big month across Minor League Baseball, as many leagues held their All-Star Games while some of the game’s top prospects made the jump to higher levels. The Washington Nationals were no stranger to this trend, as many of the organization’s best prospects thrived. As a result, the decision for The Federal Reserve’s […]

Washington Nationals Sweep Colorado Rockies For Fifth Straight Win

The Washington Nationals (46-38) completed a comeback on the shoulders of Ian Desmond to sweep the Colorado Rockies (36-49) on Wednesday with a 4-3 victory. The win gave the Nats a season-high five-game winning streak as they head into an off day before the Chicago Cubs come to town for the Independence Day weekend. The […]

Adam LaRoche Joins MLB Players Honoring The 75th Anniversary of Lou Gehrig’s Farewell Speech

As we approach the 75th anniversary of Lou Gehrig’s farewell speech, in which he announced his retirement from baseball following his ALS diagnosis, MLB has put together this wonderful video. Gehrig starts it off, and then it intersperses a number of current major leaguers, each reading a few words from the iconic speech. Washington Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche appears in the video, along side guys like Chris Davis, Albert Pujols, Joe Mauer, and Derek Jeter. This is worth watching, and if you’re like me, it’s worth having a tissue nearby when you do.

Strasburg Brilliant as Nats Demolish Rockies

In the two games since his return, Bryce Harper has not been transcendent at the plate, but he sure seems to have inspired his teammates. The Washington Nationals (45-38) controlled all phases of the game today, reaching base 17 times and giving up just one run, as Stephen Strasburg tossed an amazing 7.2 innings against […]

Nats Cruise Past Rockies in Harper’s Return

They say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. But tonight, the Washington Nationals realized just how much they had been missing without Bryce Harper. Impressive showings from thumb injury brothers Harper and Ryan Zimmerman, who figured prominently in a five-run sixth inning, led the Nats (44-38) to a huge 7-3 victory over […]

Bryce Harper Returns As Washington Nationals Take On Colorado Rockies

Bryce Harper has not played for the Washington Nationals (43-38) since April 25th when he tore a ligament in his thumb when he slid into third base. The Nats officially activated him from the disabled list before tonight’s series opener against the Colorado Rockies (36-46) in DC. Harper Returns For His Bobblehead Night When Harper […]

Top 16 Washington Nationals Vines for June 2014

May was a tough month for the Washington Nationals, both on the field and in the Vine world. June was much more fruitful, which you can see in month’s clips below. There was no shortage of defense for the team, and the infielders (and former infielders) really shined with the leather. Jayson Werth Stop Steal […]

Cubs Grab Series Opener In The Mist

As a literary device, fog represents confusion and obscurity. Those two words describe tonight’s game pretty well. After Doug Fister put them in a hole, the Washington Nationals (41-37) came back to tie the game, but the Chicago Cubs (33-44) scored a pair off of Craig Stammen and held on to their lead to win, 5-3. […]

Federal Reserve: Futures Game and Minor League Notes

On Tuesday, MLB announced its rosters for the 2014 All-Star Futures game and the Washington Nationals will be represented by two of their top prospects: Low-A Hagerstown righthander Lucas Giolito and Double-A Harrisburg centerfielder Michael Taylor. While a brief shutdown in May has resulted in Giolito’s relatively-low innings total of 48 and 2/3, he has […]

Brewers Hammer Nats, Prevent Sweep

Last night’s win may have been momentous, but today’s loss may have been as much of a letdown. Stephen Strasburg failed to go five innings, giving up seven earned runs including a grand slam, and the Washington Nationals (41-36) were limited to just two hits by the Milwaukee Brewers (48-32) in a 9-2 shellacking. Strasburg […]
