Off-the-Field Recap: Never Tweet

This week’s Nationals’ schedule had far fewer off-days than last, but the team was still able to squeeze in a few off-field exploits. Danny Espinosa’s dog was reunited with a best friend, Mike Maddux was introduced to his doppleganger, and Sammy Solis switched things up to play softball.

1. During Monday’s game in Colorado, MASN’s broadcast picked Mike Maddux’s doppleganger out of the crowd. Unfortunately, it appears that Mike Maddux hasn’t defied natural laws in order to inhabit multiple corporeal locations, instead the suspected third Maddux brother is Nats fan Dennis Clark.

Not sure which one is my uncle and which one is Mike Maddux. @FightinHydrant @Nationals @MLB pic.twitter.com/0HouEiQxWS

But can he fill in as a lefty reliever?

2. You may remember Drew Storen’s floof of a dog from the Nationals Pet Calendar shoot in 2015. It turns out that Zoey made friends with the Espinosa’s small pups, Mauie and Beezo, at their modeling debuts. After Drew Storen was traded in the off season, Zoey probably hasn’t had much time to keep in touch with her friends, but was reunited with them this past week.

3. The grind of the MLB season is a well discussed phenomenon (thanks in part to the Washington Post’s Barry Svrluga and his book on the matter), but no photo paints a picture of it so well as the shot beat reporter Chelsea Janes posted on Thursday. Believe it or not, this is also the face I make when Ben Revere grounds out to the second baseman.

4. After Kayla Varner and Bryce Harper scrubbed each other from their respective social media accounts, she posted the first photo of her new pup Wrigley. The couple is officially back together now, and Harper has apparently taken to the little fluff, referring to him as a part of his “little family.”

Missing this little guy and his mama! Love em both so much💍🐶 #MyLittleFamily

5. Wilson Ramos has had an exciting season thus far, as his incredible numbers landed him his first bid to the All Star Game. The Buffalo, following up previous weeks posts of his adorable family, shared a throwback of him and his daughter in San Diego.

Un besito para papi de esos q a él le gustan y lo vuelven loquito 😍😍😍😍 Te Amo Hija

6. Sammy Solis hung out with the kids of Dreams For Kids DC and translated his skills from the baseball field to the softball field. Dreams For Kids, which organizes “life-changing activities that empower children with disabilities,” according to its website, teamed up with Coca-Cola to put on a softball camp of sorts, despite the heat and humidity. Sammy seems to have had a lot of fun, though there’s no definitive evidence that the shoulder inflammation that put him on the DL just a few days later isn’t a result of trying to outplay these, in Sammy’s words, future big leaguers.

What a cool experience this afternoon teaming up with @dreamsforkidsdc and @cocacola to play some softball with some future big leaguers! 98 and humid outside but these kids were loving it! #nats #dreamsforkidsdc #coke

Had an awesome (HOT) morning with @Dreamsforkidsdc for our rescheduled #DFKDC baseball clinic with @nationals @sammy22solis! Thanks to our sponsors @DARCARS, @abacustechnologies, @cocacola, @lpfsports and @victoriamichaelpr For providing a fun day for our kids and VERY SPECIAL thank you to our board members and volunteers who made it out today despite the heat!

7. Ben Higgins, the most recent Bachelor on the ABC reality show, threw out the first pitch for the Rockies on Monday. His fiancee Lauren Bushnell joined him, which allowed for this selfie to come to fruition.

8. Koda Glover has been showing off his adorable little family since his debut a few weeks ago. He continued this trend by posting a few months old video of his son showing off his dancing to We Own It by music legend 2 Chainz.

Throwing it back to this last off season when I found out that my son has way more rhythm than me.
