Off-The-Field Recap: The Nats Are Risen

*Extremely Michael Buffer voice:* ARE YOU READY TO REEECAAAAPPPP?

On Easter Sunday, after Bryce Harper walked off the Phillies, not many could have imagined anything that could bring more laughs or admiration than the majestic three-run dinger. To be fair, not many knew that Jayson Werth owned an “UZR Champion” T-shirt. Werth donned the shirt during his postgame interview after making a costly error in the eighth inning, and the T-shirt choice probably served as a substitute dunce hat, acknowledging his mistake.

Among the highlights of a jubilant #Nats clubhouse: Jayson Werth wearing a “UZR Champion” T-shirt while honing up to his error.

The shirt is the brain child of Max Scherzer, a commemoration of Werth’s last place finish in the defensive metric.

As is generally accepted, the Easter bunny body-slamming a Presidents Race participant is the reason for the season. This year, Teddy Rosevelt was the bunny’s chosen victim. Maybe the real Easter is when Teddy rose again after the hit.

DC sports fans were blessed with the trifecta Wednesday night. The Wizards and the Capitals both won playoff games, and the Nationals pounded the Braves in a 14-4 win. (Apparently, CB Bucknor strengthened the synergy by making a goalie interference call during the Caps game?) The football team lost, going another day without changing its name. Don’t @ me.

The teams’ twitter accounts, of course, acknowledged each other’s accomplishments.

Players always put effort into commemorating Jackie Robinson on his day. Bryce Harper wore custom cleats, some wear T-shirts, and others posted to social media. The Nationals celebrated with their choice in first pitch throwers. The grandsons of Katherine Johnson, one of the scientists depicted in Hidden Figures, accepted the honor of throwing out the first pitch.
